1. How do I apply for water
service with Hixson Utility District?
If you currently have water service with us or have had service in the past and you have an updated water service contract or service application on file, you can call our office at (423-877-3513). A $25.00 non-refundable new account fee is due upon request of new service. For same day service, an additional $10.00 is required if requested prior to 2:00 p.m. or and additional $50.00 if requested after 2 p.m.
If you have never had service with us, you must
come in our office, bring your picture identification, sign a water
service contract and pay a $25.00 new account fee and applicable same
day charge.
2. How do I sign up for the
automatic bank draft?
Fill out the bank draft form that can be downloaded from our customer
service web page, or pick one up at the business office or at the night
deposit drop. Return the
form to our office along with a voided check, and allow approximately
ten days for processing.
This will authorize your financial institution to automatically deduct
the amount of your bill. You will continue to receive a bill at your
regular billing period. It will show the draft date and the amount that
will be drafted from your bank account. This service is free.
3. Is there a fee for a returned bank draft?
To clear a return, you must pay the amount of the draft plus a $30.00 service fee. If you have a second return, you will subject to being removed from the bank draft program.
4. Do you send second notices prior to disconnecting water on delinquent accounts?
No, we do not send second notices, but we do attempt to make a courtesy call to customers when their payment is not received by their net due date and a second call prior to disconnecting service. Please keep us updated with your current phone number. On your water bill you will find information regarding suspension of service due to a delinquent account. If your account becomes delinquent, your account balance, a $35.00 delinquency fee plus any other fees incurred must be paid in full before your service will be restored.
5. What if I have check returned.?
You must pay the amount of the check plus a $30.00 service fee to clear your account. If you continually have returned checks, you are subject to being put on a cash payment only payment plan.
6. How do I get my water cut back on if it was cut off for non-payment?
You must pay your bill plus a $35.00 delinquency charge to have water reconnected. If the meter has been tampered with or the lock removed, additional charges will have to be paid before water service is restored.
7. How do I change information on my account due to divorce, death, marriage, etc?
You can make changes by coming into the business office and bringing your picture identification.
8. My water bill seems too high. How do I check for leaks?
High Water Bill Brochure
Increases in your bill may result from leaks.
The majority are found in leaky faucets or toilets.
If you have checked your faucets and toilets and still think you
may have a leak, it may be in your water line.
TOILET LEAK
Put a few drops of food coloring in your toilet tanks. Wait fifteen minutes. If color leaks into the toilet bowl, you have a leak in your toilet.
Make sure all water using devices are off. Watch dials on your water meter. If they are registering, you are losing water which may signal an underground leak.
9. Why is the sewer portion of my bill higher than my water portion?
Sewer rates are set by the sewer provider, not by
Hixson Utility. All questions regarding sewer charges should be referred

11. Can I use the same water service contract for multiple accounts?
Yes, you can use the same water service contract or service application for multiple accounts if all bills are mailed to the same address.
12. Can I get information about my account by phone?
Yes, but you must give us your account number or social security number.
13. What if my bill is due on the weekend or one of your holidays?
You will have the following business day to pay the net amount on your bill.
14. What can I do to prevent frozen pipes during
extremely cold temperatures?
You can help prevent frozen pipes by leaving an inside cold water faucet running in a small stream. You should close all vents under your house and any doors, such as garage doors, that allow cold air to get to your plumbing. In the event that you do have frozen pipes, you may want to check for leaks when the pipes thaw out. This is a common occurrence.
